Free beginner's pre-league before summer league starts 2. Regular league is W/Th this year 3. TEAM league is the extra one this year. Maybe a pickup team? 4. Youth league is coming, details yet unknown 5. Summer soirree is June 9th, mark your calendar 6. Signups start soon. The full word from the chief: Hi, everyone. Thank you for your patience. We've been busy pulling together sponsorship, rebuilding the registration interface, and reinventing the league in general. I'm excited about the new direction, and you will be too! We hope to take the registration live within the next week. Here's what's brewin this year... - Our first *beginner pre-league* will start on Saturday, May 24th and continue for 5 sessions on Saturdays and Wednesdays until Saturday, June 7th. This pre-league is intended to educate beginner players on the fundamental skills and strategies of the game of ultimate. Experienced players will lead focused lessons that we will then apply in scrimmages. Teams in the scrimmages will be a mix of the beginner and experienced players. What's more, since this is our first time offering this pre-league, we're bringing it to you entirely FREE! - The *coed recreational hat league* is our flagship league that has over 250 registrants. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Regular season games will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 11th to July 24th. Playoffs will be during the two weeks thereafter. This year we'll have 14 teams and an extra week of play! - This year, our secondary league will be a *coed team league*! This means that YOU can form YOUR OWN team or join a team that someone else is forming. When you register for summer league, you will be able to indicate whether you plan to submit a team or if you would like to be included in a list of free agents. The team submission process, however, will be handled separately. Format will be 4:3 (men/women) standard. This league's regular season will be on Mondays from June 16th to July 21st with a final tournament on the last weekend in July. Do you want to submit a team? Start talking! - We will also be starting a *youth league! * The specifics (eg, when, where, what ages) are still up in the air. We will be holding a youth ultimate event during Ithaca Festival on solstice weekend. We will springboard off of that to start the league. - We will have our season-opening Soiree on Monday June 9th, our mixer tournament in late July, and weekly league nights to-be-announced. Sound fun? Worth the wait? I sure hope so. Those of us working with the women in the Syracuse area are hoping to foster the growth in the Syracuse area. This being said we are looking for players of all abilities, this would be an opportunity to help women become more confident at the begining stages of learning. Right now I"m mass emailing several lists and, therefore, "talking" to too many boys(provided i'm making it through your spam filters). So, I'd like to make sure we have an updated listserve for ultimate-laying women in Ithaca (women@iaua.com). If you are on that list already and want to continue to get emails, great. If you want to subscribe or unsubscribe, go here and follow the simply instructions: http://lists.iaua.com/mailman/listinfo/women PLEASE forward to female players who might be interested in women's pickup and/or tournament play this summer. (E.g Cornell & IC women's players - forward to your teams). I will also be putting together a women's team to hit at least one tourney in upstate NY. Message-ID: It's too early for poetry and I'm not Jaquith enough... Here's the scoop... *Beginners Pre-League starts today at noon* at the Cass inlet field (field 4). If you fancy yourself a beginner, you can join us. If you were interested in helping out, you need to be there by 11:30am. *Pickup is also at Cass at 1pm* as usual on field 2/5 over by route 89 where you typically play. If, however, that space is taken up by some other sports, migrate over to the inlet and wait politely for a chance to grab my attention. I will find a way to accommodate pickup but please don't start setting up a field without my okay. Also, please don't heckle the beginners as we will unfortunately not get to the heckling lesson for another couple weeks. Note, I have field 4 reserved for the beginner league, but technically only until 2pm. Since it was easy for me to reserve that block, I suspect that it'll be available afterwards. One of the local Boy Scout troops is interested in having us teach a clinic on Ultimate frisbee at their troop meeting Weds. June 18th, from 6:45-8:00 at Cayuga Heights school. Age ranges are 12-18 I believe. Please let me know if you're interested in volunteering. Also the Ithaca Youth Bureau is having a chicken BBQ fundraiser at their location outside of Stewart Park at 11am starting this Saturday. this is to fund a week long trip for their kids. Probably to Tijuana or something. $8 gets you a bunch of chicken and salt potatoes and stuff. Just what you want to have before playing pickup but come out and support them.
